Community involvement
The Tropical Spatial Science Group is active within the spatial science community of the Northern Territory and wider region. This involvement primarily comes from:
- Membership of the NT regional committee of the Spatial Science Institute (SSI)
- Membership of Spatial Information Commission (SSI) National Committee
- Involvement with International Association of Landscape Ecologists (IALE)
- Membership of the NARGIS conference organising committee
- Involvement in the Spatial Technology in Schools competition.

GIS and Remote Sensing-based consultancy
Access may be provided to staff and facilities of the university to industrial, other organisations and individuals for specialist advice and experimental work. The university does not compete for routine work with private providers. Rates charged are on a full-cost recovery plus profit basis and the rates are not less than those recommended by the Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee.
An agreement must be signed for each service before commencement of any work.
The university provides professional indemnity cover for all properly authorised university consultancies.
Examples of services available include:
- Development of mapping procedures from remotely sensed imagery
- Compilation of spatial databases
- Analysis of environmental change.
